Music, fireworks and a tribute to the troops. All of these things and more will be on tap at Thunder Over Evans to celebrate Armed Forces Day on Saturday, May 21.
Food vendors will be ready to serve at 5:30 p.m. so guests can have ample time to get their chow and still find seating.
The festivities begin at 6:15 p.m. with a military salute that will include posting of the colors, a message from the Fort Gordon command, a veterans’ procession and the national anthem.
Musical entertainment will feature Party Crashers, a high-energy, West Coast band that will take the stage at 7:15 p.m. Playing hits that every age group can enjoy, the band crosses genres and decades to appeal to a wide-ranging audience.
The evening finale will include one of the South’s largest fireworks shows. In fact, the extreme fireworks display will light up the night sky so brightly that you’ll need to wear sunglasses or other eye protection (we’re not kidding).
Verge Aero will join the pyrotechnic display with 125 illuminated drones. These synchronized, 3D drones create giant images hundreds of feet up in the air, turning the sky into a giant canvas.
All profits from the sale of adult beverages at the event will go directly to Forces United, which connects service members, veterans and their families with resources to improve their lives. People also can contribute to the local veterans’ group by texting SHIELDVETS to 44321.
