After her wedding in June 2019, Alison Yohe took another life-changing plunge just three months later. She launched her own business, Yohe & Co. Wedding and Event Planning, to offer seamless event planning to brides and other clients.
Services include full planning from a couple’s engagement to their wedding day and partial planning to handle odds and ends. She and her five-member team also offer day-of coordination to help with last-minute details and finalize timelines with vendors. Alison loves to see a bride’s expression as she walks down the aisle and when she arrives at the reception.
While she strives to make her clients’ dreams come true, she also has dreams of her own. “I would love to grow into travel wedding planning and plan a wedding out of the country,” she says.

Universal Plumbing has its eye on the future, and Shalanda Morris, operations manager, hopes it includes more women on staff. Like she and the other three women on the 28-member Universal Plumbing team, they can contribute a variety of work experience to the job.
Her dynamic team includes Claudia Jones, vice president; Jasmine Jordan, who brought her human resources background to the company; and Stephanie Fox, a former 911 dispatcher who works in customer service and dispatch. “The future of our company is women, and the women in this office are leaders,” says Shalanda, who has a master’s degree in education from Harvard University. “I used what I learned at Harvard about managing schools to make changes and modernize the business.”

Throughout her career, Piedmont Augusta Chief Executive Officer Lily Jung Henson, M.D., has built a reputation as an outstanding neurologist and an impressive record of leadership in hospital management. Laura Mercado understands that home is the place for people to do what they love. She wants to make sure that they love being in their home as well.

Paradise Kennels, owned by Ashton Thompson, is not just female owned but also primarily run by women. Of the four management positions, two are held by women. Grooming Manager Kelcie Carter, and General Manager Jennifer Caulkins make up the female dream team that keeps Ashton’s vision moving forward. And the female fun doesn’t stop there.
