Celebrating 25 years this year, Tim Farr and Chris Hensley have grateful hearts for the success of their co-owned countertop business, StoneWorks of Augusta. Over this time they have certainly faced obstacles, but with faith, hard work and commitment, they have, and will continue to, overcome.
Originally the two worked together full-time for a local commercial interior contractor and began doing cabinetry work on the side. When they found themselves working seven days a week, both days and nights, they realized they needed to make a decision. Their ambitions made their choice easy.
“We both wanted to own our own business one day,” Chris says. And with the support and motivation of their spouses Kim (Tim) and Tricia (Chris), family, and friends, they did just that. From day one they agreed to focus on customer satisfaction and strived to gain word-of-mouth referrals based on their quality of work. Chris works with clients on the front side of the business while Tim oversees the fabrication.
“I enjoy the fabrication process,” says Tim. “I like cutting stone and making things. I like working with all of my cool toys.”
Working with builders, architects, designers and homeowners they fabricate granite, quartz, quartzite and marble to beautify not only kitchen countertops but also bath vanities, tub surrounds, fireplaces — even walls and ceilings — to suit the project at hand.
They enjoy that they build relationships with their clients. “We listen to their needs to direct them on the right path to get the best look for their project,” Chris says. They credit their staff for extending the same care as they do to the business. They both feel that the employees they have bring their own personal talents and are truly a work family. They strive to keep on top of the industry with new products, technology and education to stand out in the market. “If you have good employees, you’re going to have a successful business,” Chris says.
“Some of them have been with us for years. We have the right people in the right places.” That is why they prefer to work by appointment. Of course, walk ins are welcome, but “We like to give individual attention to our clients, so with appointments , we can block out time for them,” says Tim.
These guys are proud of what they have built and continue to thank God for where He has brought them in the last 25 years and what He has in store for the future of StoneWorks.
